Flaunt Your Curves

Clothes are more than just pieces of fabric. The right styles can do wonders for a girl's confidence. Ensure you look and feel your best by dressing for your shape with the help of this simple guide.

Celebrities with different body shapes

From voluptuous vixen to lean machine, we're all different, and we all suit different clothes. A tag may have a number that fits you, but that doesn't necessarily mean the style will be right for your personality or your shape. So don't let yourself feel limited by numbers or forced into certain popular fads. Instead, have fun dressing for your unique shape and what makes you feel good.

Just as certain haircuts suit different people better, so too do different clothes accent different individuals' features. So to look your best, find which body type you have, and get to work creating a wardrobe that draws out all your best assets!

Keep in mind, though, that these categories are just guidelines. Very few people fit into just one body type, and shapes can change with time. So if you feel you're a boyish shape through the waist and hips but also have wide shoulders, don't be afraid to target the tips to your specifics. You are unique and should dress to show it off!

Triangle shape

The triangle shape or "pear shape" means you carry the majority of your weight in the lower part of your body (i.e., your hips, bum and thighs). This can be a very feminine and attractive shape when dressed right. Your smaller chest, slim waist and curvaceous hips suit a variety styles.

Dos

  • A-line skirts that fall to just above the knee skim over hips beautifully and show off your legs.
  • Heels do wonders for making your bottom half appear longer and leaner, so wear them whenever possible. If you aren't comfortable in heels, start off with a kitten heel or a wide 1- to 2-inch heel that will help you get used to the feeling.
  • Belts are great because they accentuate your slim waist and give you more of an hourglass shape.
  • There's nothing wrong with having a smaller chest. But if you want to balance your bosom with your lower half a little more, make sure to wear the right size of bra, and consider trying one that has a "push-up" quality to it.
  • Wear eye-catching earrings and necklaces to draw the attention up.

Don'ts

  • Steer clear of skinny jeans for the most part, but boot-cut can be great. Many pear-shaped girls also have success with wide-legged pants, as they create a more even look from the hips down.
  • Avoid skirts that are overly clingy or made of a flimsy fabric such as silk. These can make hips appear unnecessarily large.
