Five Of Our Favourite Shops On The Site

We have a confession to make: we're obsessed with Etsy. Granted, the site has been around for awhile. It's just, when the weather gets cold and we need to perk up our place with a unique or cute home accessory, it's the best web space to surf. And given our penchant for sorting the site, we like to think we have a handle on its up-and-coming designers. Here are five of our current favourites.

Plum Street Prints

If you're looking for classy and modern art prints for your home, Plum Street Prints will have them. And, if they don't, you can ask them to create you something that's one-of-a-kind. The site's customer service is exceptional, and all of the artwork displayed is bright, colourful, peppy and uplifting.

Aheirloom cutting board

Who needs a regular cutting board when you can have one that's made, by hand, in the shape of your state, province or what-have-you? These make great gifts, are sturdy enough to be used every day and are made by Amy and Bill in Brooklyn, New York. The best news is the pair has plans to expand their product line in 2012.

Pretty Old Things

Vintage is in (and, really, the trend never left) — which could be why we continually visit this site to stake out some of the retro and fabulous things that are found at flea markets and antique stores across North America. Fun finds include an Ovenex muffin pan and vintage liquor bottles. Amazing!

Gray Works Design

Made from sustainably harvested wood or salvaged hardwood, these cutting boards are, well, incredible. Hand-rubbed with organic olive oil, they work perfectly as serving trays. The pair behind this stylish site are even starting to expand into homemade tables, chairs and benches (seriously, check out the benches they currently have available). They're simply swoon-worthy.

Claudia Pearson

There's something about illustrated home items that make us smile – perhaps it's the cute designs or the poppy colours. Whatever the reason, Claudia Pearson's designs are amongst our favourites. We love the retro typeface she uses on her chipper mugs, and the tea towels she creates are unlike anything we've seen. She even makes cute notebooks and calendars.
